Suppose you are a judge mediating between two groups of people, one is your family and the other are people who your family has had a grueling history with but you must remain neutral in this debate. And picture you succeeding in the mediation, allowing a settlement of peace that averted arguments for future generations, arguments that had been ongoing since long before you could remember but, by surprise, your family in the end, killed you. This is exactly what happened to the Mohammad Anwar al Sadat but with his own Muslim people. On October 6, 1981, Sadat was at a military viewing for it was the anniversary and holiday of the Yom Kippur War, which he launched in order to gain back part of Egypt’s land. During this time, Anwar was seated on the front row of a box with other spectators. Arriving was a car of military Arabian men whom Sadat began to greet but threw three grenades to which only the third one went off (Farrel 1). Sadat stood there and took it like a man because he was the man who created peace with the Israelis and was the first Arab leader to make amends with Israel. Sadat’s main goal was to terminate the perpetual war once and for all. He fired upon Israel and though Israel won the war, they did not win the eyes of the World. He gained prospects in the West and they funded and had more respect for him and his ideas. Sadat became known as “The Hero of the Crossing”(Pace 1) for being the first Arab leader to be successful in reclaiming land but through all of this, yes he gained eyes in the West but his own people continued to become enraged within and there was personal hate regardless of the bondage he was making.
