Sister’s United
Everything that I learned through this semester has made it possible for me to branch off and create my agency “Sisters United “.First a little background on where the idea came from. Because im a child of two immigrant parents it was hard for me to transition in regular African American lifestyle even thought I was born in America. Throughout my years of high school and college I’ve spoken to so many girls who have had the same problem as me. I also have seen a lot of my parents friends who bought their children here from Africa and they either never adapted to the American lifestyle or adapted way too much and lost all there African .roots.
The goal of my program is to help Young girls and women from the ages of 12-18 adapted to the African American lifestyle without losing their African culture because that’s a very big part of who they are. My Agency will be located in the Bronx which is a very large borough in New York. I chose this area because when African families first migrate to the United States they chose to New York as their first settling place before they go somewhere else. My main focus will be various parts of West Africa, I feel as though I can relate better to that region because that’s where my family is from.
As far as the multi-cultural aspect of my office I would like it to be prodomittly African but I don’t mind other races because I know that people from other races come into your life and became your spouse and best friends so I would love to have their import at the office. We will have translators, but because it is impossible to have a person translate from every country in west Africa when it comes to the different dialects we will have people who speak French because that is the most common language that is spoken on the west region because the French colonized the western part of Africa.
When it comes to the 12 aspects of culture Sisters United plans on showing each part with knowledge and a level of respect and awareness. The history of the major West African countries will be displayed on a painting that will be one of the offices wall. The intragroup and intergroup interaction will be prevalent .Most of the females will be from the same area and there will be staff from different areas that can contribute a diverse point of view. Individuals from Africa are
