Faith M. Martin was arrested and charged with first degree murder in November of 2010, for stabbing her live-in boyfriend to death. Martin sat a long 19-months in an Aurora county jail while waiting for her highly anticipated trial, for the death of Willie J. Arrington. During the five day trail, County Public Defender Kelli Childress called a wide variety of witnesses to the stand including Arrington’s ex-wife. Witnesses testified that Arrington was a violent man with a drug and drinking problem whose rage could not be controlled. Martin took the stand and claimed that Arrington was violent to her in the past and that the two had got into an argument on November 21, 2010. Martin testified that Arrington began punching and choking her while pushing her around the apartment that the two shared. That is when Martin ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife, Arrington repeatedly pushed and slammed Martin into a wall. "I thought he would kill me. He would just not stop," testified Martin (Hitzeman, 2012) That is when Martin raised her left arm to block her face and brought her right hand down which held the knife, into Arrington chest. Martin ran frantically to a neighbor’s house, calling Arrington’s mother and then the police. Prosecutors questioned Martin and wanted to know why she didn’t tell police she feared for her life when she was first questioned. Martin was found not guilty in the death of Willie J. Arrington. I believe that
