I for one actually agree with Murray’s observations. Instead of convincing high school students that the only way to become successful or even well off is to graduate with a college degree, students should be given options. Options in which technical careers would be just as valued as going off to college. Murray gives the example of the high school graduate who was deciding between becoming an electrician or a business major. He explains that even though as a “white-collar manager” (246) the student would probably be in the 10th percentile because of the student’s low “logical mathematical abilities and linguistic abilities” (246) fall short of an above average person in the same field.
