Gilmore Girls is a Drama series that is the complete opposite of your traditional television show. It started in the early 2000s and is about a mother-daughter relationship between Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. The first thing about this series that breaks society's traditions is that Lorelai had Rory when she was in highschool. Her parents, who are incredibly wealthy and have a big name to live up to, were extremely disappointed. Lorelai ran away from home and raised her daughter as a single mother. “He’s gonna come and go as he pleases babe, you know that” (Lorelai Gilmore). Rory never had a stable relationship with her father, so when her decided to visit them for the first time, Rory could not be more ecstatic. This breaks the norms in society because usually children have a stable mother and father figure in their life. “She’s a great kid Lore, I wish I could say I see more of myself in her, other than we have the same left earlobe” (Christopher Hayden). Christopher plays the typical father who says that they want to spend time more with their child, but never does. This adds to the drama later in Rory’s live when she needs her father there for her and he isn’t. Christopher claims that he has a business set up in Berkeley, where he lives, that he claims to be very successful. “I get it your life is great, and I appreciate you coming here for the first time to let us know that” (Lorelai Gilmore). He decides to take Rory to a bookstore and lets her pick out any book that she wants. When they get to the front desk his card gets declined. Christopher followed her there and they started to talk about what happened. “I remember sneaking from here to be with you” (Lorelai Gilmore). As they reminisced on old times there was a spark between them. Suddenly the tone became flirty and it was obvious that the two of them still had feelings for eachother. “And now that we are talking about old times, we are in the spot where Rory was conceived” (Christopher Hayden). With that they kissed and the scene switches to them putting their clothes back on. The car ride home was silent and awkward and Rory was sitting in the back wondering where her parents had wandered off to. “They don’t even wanna get to know me do they (referring to her grandparents)” (Rory Gilmore). She wants the closest thing to a normal life. She tries to make all of her family proud by being extremely respectful, responsible, and by doing amazing in school. So when she hears that her grandparents want nothing to do with her, she couldn’t help but feel bitter. “Lore, I wanna marry you” (Christopher Hayden). He wanted to finally settle down and be there for his daughter. Lorelai was horrified by how random that comment was and she did not approach it in the most calm way. She told him how she knew that he lied about having a successful company because Rory told her that his credit card got declined. She told him that he was still irresponsible and didn't think
