I can still remember the day that my grandparents told me about the Conservatory Summer Intensive at Baldwin Wallace. My grandmother attended Baldwin Wallace in the 1950’s as a theater major and often spoke of her formative experience there. When I attended the intensive for musical theater in 2014, my time there was also very formative. The decision to attend the Baldwin Wallace summer intensive solidified my desire to pursue musical theater and furthermore, helped me understand what I could expect as a musical theater major.
For the first time, I was surrounded by people who were as passionate about musical theater as I was! For two weeks I was involved in choral groups, a musical theater workshop, private voice lessons, and an audition preparation class. Through the audition preparation, I met two inspiring musical theater majors. Their passion for musical theater was evident as they spoke of their audition experiences and Baldwin Wallace’s musical theater program. My eyes were opened to the triple-threat training of the musical theater major. Although the intensive was only two weeks long, I felt at home on the campus. Every teacher that I encountered wanted to see me succeed and was always ready to help me reach my full potential. I want to excel in the knowledge and skills of the craft for which I have a passion. Then I want to apply the teaching given in the classroom to theater productions on campus. It is exciting to know that the goal of the theater, dance, and voice faculty is to push the students to reach their full potential. As a musical theater major, I would bring an enthusiasm and joy to the program. I have a longing to learn and love to express myself.
