Without emotion, people do not realize the damage that can be done. Matters will only get worse for humanity if emotions are removed. In the story, the people take a drug called soma to relax. Every other Thursday Bernard attends a Solidarity Service where the participants sit twelve at a table. All of the participants take soma, a while later the soma kicks in. “Eyes shone, cheeks were flushed, the inner light of the universal benevolence broke out on every face in happy, friendly smiles,” (Huxley 81).
