“I suck at this” was something that I daily thought to myself. My confidence decreased as my doubt increased and it seemed like everything was crumbling. In my mind, every scale I played was terrible and everyone was better than me. My lack of confidence made me upset most of the time. If a teacher yelled at the cello section, I took it personally even when it had nothing to do with me. This increasing doubt led me to play timidly. I was scared that I would play a wrong note and get ridiculed for it. I was putting myself down but I also wanted to prove people wrong. I began practicing more, and slowly gained my courage back, and became a better cellist.
