My Leadership Philosophy

Leadership- Leadership is empowering those under my charge to do what’s right with the resources that we are given. It is also fighting for my crew when they are not given the resources that they need or deserve. Leadership is also following those that lead me while knowing when to challenge the status quo.
During my career I can think of a number of people that played a major part in my success. The first person that comes to mind is my very first Chief. My Chief had a distinct style that left most of us feeling that when given the opportunity we would do the opposite of what he did. There were a lot of great things that he did for us but he missed the mark on a great deal of others. At the end of the day, he taught us that he is human and that we all can strive to do better.
A second person that stands out in my career is the first Senior Chief that I worked for after I made Chief. He taught me what it can look like when you trust and empower your crew to go forward and do great things. He truly trusted me and empowered me which encouraged me to push my own limits of what I thought was possible.
Lastly, an officer that I worked with early in my career has pushed me to further my education and always supports me when I need advice on how to best deal with senior officers. This officer is always encouraging me and still reminds me that if I so

To me that means; I need to know what I am talking about and be the example. I need to do as I say and be counted on when I am needed. I need to treat people better than I want to be treated. I need to be able to speak and receive the truth no matter how uncomfortable it may be and I need to be able to do the right thing when no one is looking. Lastly, I need to understand that I don’t have all the answers and there are people around me that may be better or more efficient than me and I need to trust them and their
