In The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Jeannette encountered many hardships throughout her life. In my mind, all people encounter hardships in their life; it is the way that they react to these troubles that shapes them into the person that they become. The people who endure the most are the strongest people. We can all make it through what Jeannette made it through; however, saying that it would be easy to make it through what she did would not be true. In The Glass Castle, Jeannette played the cards she was dealt and became a successful lady. While I have not gone through anything near what Jeannette went through, I have had to overcome multiple hip injuries in my high school soccer career; I believe these injuries have helped shape me into the individual I am today. When I was four years old, I started my soccer career in Little Kickers. At this age, I had no idea that soccer would have the effect on my life that it did. At the beginning, I had no idea how intense it would be. It consisted of multiple trips to Cleveland every month to play with the top kids in Ohio North. This again enabled me to branch out and make many new friends. As a member of ODP, I traveled to Europe to play internationally, and I traveled to Kansas City, Kansas to compete at Regional Camp. Europe was an amazing experience for me, and I met many new people; I have friends as far away as Japan that I am still in somewhat contact with. The trip to Europe also helped me have a new appreciation for the life that we have here in America. While I thoroughly enjoyed the trip, I don’t think I would want to live anywhere other than America.
