My Michigan Hero

The definition of a hero is “a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.”I chose my hero because he has all those qualities. Throughout his life he has dedicated himself courageously to protect his country and achieve a high rank, committed himself to work to provide for his family and also take time to help others through volunteering. He is my hero because he enjoys helping others.
At age 19, my grandpa Wayne courageously decided to serve his country. He joined the Air Force and attended boot camp in Texas. After a year, he was moved to Kansas where he was trained to work on airplanes. During his 8 years of active duty service, my grandpa was stationed in many places. A …show more content…
He did many jobs during his 30 years working there. The main job he held for most of his career was a Gun Welder. One interesting job he had, was with the prototype group. He would handle all the shipping and receiving of prototype parts and cars that came in to be evaluated. Sometimes he would have to smash and destroy the parts so that no other company learned about their future products. General Motors made two commercials that he appeared in.
Not only did my hero work at a paid job, but he has been a long-time volunteer. My grandpa currently volunteers at a local hospital. While he is there, he helps transport people, brings patients food and visits with them. Sometimes the patients do not have any friends or family with them, and he talks with them to make them feel more comfortable. As a member of the Masons, they do a great deal of volunteer work. They help out with Auburn Hills community events and the Masons host a picnic every year. This year, they did fundraising and were able to give local students who earned good grades and had a good attendance, a brand new shiny bike.
It is not hard to see why my grandpa Wayne is a hero. This courage, hard work that led to achievements and his giving nature volunteering to help others all show how he fits the definition of a hero. He is an excellent role model, and he makes the world a better
