Derek turned towards the therapist with tears in his eyes. “You don't know how it feels do you? To loose everything. I didn't just loose my leg in that crash, I lost myself. I used to rule the school. Everybody knew me. Everybody loved me. I was the captain of the football team for goodness sake. I had scholarships to every school in this country. I was going to be great. They should have just let me die in the crash rather than making me suffer through a life I would rather not live. So to answer your question, no I will not get up.” He turned back towards the window not wanting the therapist to see him shed a tear. Later that night, when the hospital was silent and nobody was awake, Derek sat up. He felt the depressing scar where his knee used to be. Enraged, he threw the lamp at the window causing it to shatter into a million pieces. He then picked up a piece of glass in his large, dry hands and placed it to his wrist. Derek dug the glass in as hard as he possibly could. Blood squirted onto the white walls and stained the white sheets. It got matted into his hair and covered his gown.
