Several years ago, the bar was raised, so to speak, by the automotive industry. While NATEF program Accreditation is still the accepted “National Standard”, the industry moved forward and created the AYES program. There were many reasons for this programs creation, however the key factor here is that this is what our industry felt was the next step in the evolutionary process of training new technicians and in the transition process from secondary education to post-secondary education, infused with real world work experience culminating in gainful employment within their career path.

The OEM’s and supporting partners also look at the State’s overall support and participation. Working together we can help other programs that may not have as large a geographic area or industrial base to work from. Just as important as our individual participation in the AYES program is, so too is our states overall AYES participation. All NATEF program instructors need to offer help, support, and encouragement to non-NATEF programs in attaining NATEF / AYES Accreditation.
This lack of data recording is also depriving you students of some excellent benefits and opportunities such as free SkillsUSA PDP level 1 &2 access which develops “soft skills”, paid mentor training which becomes an extension of you lab and builds NATEF time, tool purchasing opportunities through Snap-on, and scholarships only open to AYES students, just to name a few.
I am well aware that the majority of you already offer some form of “shadowing”, and some type of “Internship” or “Co-op program” or possibly all three to your students. 6. Your AYES Interns will have the opportunity to expand and reinforce the NATEF tasks you are teaching them through “Real World” supervised and paid work experiences.
7. The opportunity to apply for AYES sponsored “Scholarships” to continue their education.
8. Opportunities for you program to receive potential AYES partner donations and support.
