Na’im Akbar has contribute a lot to Black psychology. He stress that African Americans have been victims of intellcutual oppression by white supremacy and that can been seen through historical facts. He feels that African Americans need to create their own definitions when it comes what is “normal” and “abnormal.” Society has put us in the “abnormal” cateorgy because normality was determined by the function of the majority people, so when judging African American to the behaviors of the majority, we were seen as insane. He question how the people who enslaved, murder, and kidnapped other people can be the standard that they used to assessed African American mental health.
