The Nacirema are an exceedingly complex society with countless bizarre rituals. Previously Horace Miner thoroughly described the Nacerima people’s addiction with the human body and the different rituals they performed for their bodily “needs”. But, that was only a taste into the distinct culture of the Nacirema. Recently, I was given the opportunity to observe and participate in a most bizarre ritual of the Nacarima. I feel it crucial to share my observations and make this ritual of Kcalb Yadirf known to the public.
Kcalb Yadirf is celebrated annually and starts promptly on the day following Gnivigsknaht(another peculiar and incomprehensible ritual of the Nacirema which goes much beyond the scope of this paper). Members of different tribes wake promptly before dawn or do not even sleep in the first place to leave the comfort of their warm house to go into the bitter outdoor cold. They travel to various large square magical temples, which I now believe are large trading posts, and eagerly wait in never ending lines winding all around the magical temples. The Nacirema are capable of withstanding the cold and sleep for over 7 hours, until the custodian charged with the care of the temple appears from inside to open the establishment. Serious injuries or even death are usual outcomes in just the entering and claiming chariots. Once inside and having claimed chariots, the Nacirema roam around the labyrinth of a temple going through passages lined with different goods and trophies. the items they deem worthy are placed into the chariot. I have heard that the item are on sale for a lower trading price then on normal days, which is why so many Nacirema flock to attain them.
