Before Napoleon came to power, he went through various stages of endeavors and professions. He achieved second lieutenant in the La Fére artillery regiment and later joined
Paoli’s party, but when Paoli showed no sympathy to him, Napoleon returned to France

Later on, he gained the promotion to lieutenant colonel in the national guard, however, when he did not return to France in January of 1792, the army considered him to be a deserter, but they later pardoned him when France declared war on Austria (Godechot). In this same year, he earned the rank of captain, and he rejoined his regiment at Nice in June of

After becoming commandant of the artillery in February of 1794, he received a charge of treason and conspiracy on July 27 (Godechot). Following his release, Napoleon gained an offer to command the artillery in the Army of the West, but he refused (Godechot). Because of
Napoleon’s promotion of the Directory, the new government, after they took over the country in
1795, he became the Commander of the Army of the Interior and one of their respected advisors
(Godechot)(Napoleon). In March of 1769, he became commander of the Army of Italy and later weakened the British empire through disturbing their trade route with India (Godechot)
(Napoleon). Because of these events and actions, Napoleon took control and came to power in
France.
