Sleeping is something that all living organisms do to survive. In our hectic everyday lives, we have to fit sleeping into our schedule. However, according to studies, we might not be getting the amount of sleep we need, especially children in the teenage years. However, there are ways you can get the amount by not just sleeping, but by napping also. To begin with, sleeping is important for all ages. Sadly, many of us don’t get the amount of sleep we need. In source one, the chart exemplifies the recommended amount of sleep for different age groups. For example, newborns are recommended to get 16-18 hours of sleep, while adults (including the elderly) only need 7-8 hours of sleep. In source two, paragraph 11 it says, a study at Harvard School of Public Health revealed that getting extra sleep during the day would help you to be healthier and more alert. In example, Ronald Reagan, a previous president, Thomas Edison, a famous inventor, and Leonardo da Vinci, a famous artist. Napping has been proven to improve memory and mental performance by 34% by NASA researchers, as said in source two paragraph six. Although napping improves memory and mental performance, taking long naps make you feel groggy and make it harder to fall asleep at night, while shorter naps recharge your body and increase your mental alertness without feeling groggy when you wake up as stated in source three paragraph 11.
