Narrative devices
Structure
The narrative of the film is linear and chronological
Equilibrium: Four magicians (J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Henley Reeves, and Jack Wilder) are living their usual life, showing the tricks
Disruption: Each of them gets the card from unknown person that brings them together.
The realization of the disruption takes place in one of the rooms in an old house where the magicians plan affair
The heroes attempt to repair the disruption by executing the conditions of the plan, necessary to join the Eye. There is a new equilibrium at the end of the narrative, when we understand the purpose of this event.
Characters
The main characters are five magicians (J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Henley Reeves, Jack Wilder and Dylan Rhodes)
Heroes- J. Daniel Atlas, Merritt McKinney, Henley Reeves, Jack Wilder,
Villain- Bradley (the man who tries to vanquish the magicians), Dylan Rhodes (the man who send the cards to magicians)
Helper- Dylan Rhodes (he helps the heroes to complete the plan)
Donor - Dylan Rhodes (helps in resolution of the narrative)
Some of the characters have back-stories, we learn through the talking.
The motivations of some main characters are clear as they tell us their plan and what they are going to do. The motives of the last one we know only at the end of the film through the talking with the other characters.
Closure
The closure for the four magicians is when they get to know their mysterious benefactor, who welcomes them into The Eye.
The closure for the mysterious benefactor (Dylan Rhodes) is when he meets Drey (the women who works with him in FBI) and tells her the purpose of his plan.
