Nurses and doctors running back and forth in the emergency room at the University of Illinois at Chicago tending to my family after we had suffered a severe car accident with a semi trailer truck.Everyone was physically fine but suffering with a bit of post traumatic stress.After returning home with my family from the E.R. we decided to rest.The next morning came and we were all awakened by a sudden thump... the sight was heartbreaking.Everything on the countertop was knocked down,my dad was on the floor crying for help.He said he couldn’t feel his legs, that everything was numb.While holding back my tears and trying to hold myself together I called the ambulance right away for help.I had a foreboding feeling that things were going to change …show more content…
I saw my mom telling me to be strong and to pursue anything; that made me smile. I felt her warmness surround me again and I was not going to let that slip between my fingers again.I talked to my parents and suggested we go to family counseling. My family agreed and with all of our efforts, I started seeing progress in about 5 months.I started to regain my family and my optimistic personality.It was a long road towards recovery. My mother and I learned there were people in similar situations that helped guide us .Today, my dad and mom are better thanks to therapy. Finances in the family are more stable with the assistance of social workers who could help them with different types of aid. Some different types of aids were the medical card and the charity care assistance program, which provided full coverage for medications and therapy sessions or even reduced the cost for some of the over the counter medication. Since then I have been open to new activities, experiences, and people to keep myself informed and be resourceful for others.I attend multiple health fairs in different communities,I talk to people about my experience and inform them about the type of resources I received and they could possibly receive as well if they are going through similar situations. I am ready for the outside world and have both support and a sense of
