It was cold outside. It was Thanksgiving day, but it did not feel like Fall. There was a breeze outside, but it was not a good one. I was volunteering at the local hospital that evening. I would answer phone calls, direct people, and complete other tasks. An elderly couple approaches the desk and has a worried look on their face. I knew from the look on their eyes something was troubling. As they come, I greet them with a big smile. They were a little nervous to talk, but wanted me to call a taxi for them. The couple has been in the hospital since the morning. Their son has been in the emergency room for the past three days. Chills were coming through my body as they told me this. In my mind, I feel so bad for this couple and not imagining what they are going through at the moment. I do not know the condition of their son, but I am hoping its nothing too serious. I am furious in my mind. I can’t believe the taxi driver still has not come yet. I immediately call the company with an angry expression. I ask the operator where is the driver and he said it will take another thirty minutes. At this point, I was at my breaking point. I start yelling at the operator for giving bad service. There is so much going through my mind right now. I just want the couple to go home safely. I tell them that the taxi is going to take a little longer. I told them I will figure out any other options. I offered them water and coffee. I told them that everything will be okay. I tried to comfort them because I did not want them to be more nervous. I called a different taxi company and the driver came about ten minutes later. I felt a moment of relief when a taxi pulled up into the hospital entrance. The couple finally can go home.
