Thanksgiving has always been one of my family's favorite holidays. We love the football, the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, the company of friends and family, the meaning behind the holiday and of course the food. Every year on the last Thursday of November, I wake up to the sound of pots and pans and the smell of chopped onions and crisp spices making the air thick.
My family’s Thanksgiving meals have remained the same every year. We have mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, my mom's homemade rolls, cranberry sauce, a big fat turkey and stuffing. This past Thanksgiving, the menu was the same, but the stuffing had a little extra surprise in it. Thanksgiving meals are always pretty time consuming. In my household all hands are helping. I was in charge of going through the stuffing inside the turkey. I kept digging and all of a sudden I saw the corner of the band-aid. I grabbed it out and chucked the spoon, band-aid, and stuffing into the garbage. I was still laughing and gagging at the same time because of how disgusting it was. My Grandma looked at me and said “Let's keep this our little Thanksgiving secret.”
The turkey and stuffing was put into the oven to cook and be cleansed of all possible germs. A few hours later, my aunts, uncles, and cousins arrived for dinner. We all embraced each other with open arms and loving hearts. As the adults caught up and the children played, our mouths started to water like dogs. The smell of the food was almost as overwhelming as the love in the air. My grandma quieted the family down and offered a Thanksgiving prayer. Once we all sat down at the dinner table, we talked about what we were all grateful for and enjoyed a very filling and delicious
