Hurricane Harvey took its toll on the gulf coast, especially close to my home town of Corpus Christi, TX. Two places close to my heart, Port Aransas and Rockport were torn a part leaving thousands without homes. My heart was broken because I knew that I could do nothing at the time to help since school was in session here at Texas A&M, but that didn't stop me from coming up with a plan. I knew that since school was just beginning, my first couple of weeks wouldn't be too jam packed with testing and extracurricular activities. So I decided to plan a trip back down to Corpus Christi to see my family and plan a relief effort in Port Aransas, TX. I got home on a Friday and talked with my family and decided that we would smoke a brisket, make sandwiches, buy bottles of water, and snacks to take over to those in need. You don't realize how close a community really is until something like this happens. Everyone was outside helping their neighbors and friends trying to fix and repair their houses and find their belongings. People from all across the country came down to help out and lend a helping hand. One of my friends was offered materials from a local home improvement store for free because of the travesty of the storm. It wasn't the fact that handing out food and water was satisfying, it was the end result of knowing that you helped this little town get on the right track of getting back to normal. It may have been the smallest thing, but sometimes its the small things that go a long way. This was one of the greatest experiences I have had the chance to be a part of and I have continued to check in to both Port Aransas and Rockport, and have seen the huge progress they have made in getting back to
