They took him from his uncle’s house, no one knew. Mom was telling me the story. Oh, the terrible things that they did to him. She wouldn’t tell me how they tortured him, but it had to very depressing with the way he looked. Skin look like tar on the side of the road. Nothing like the 14 year old Emmett Till that was in his school pictures. Nothing like his happy self.

The day was so perfect on August 24, 1955, when Emmett Till was strolling along to the store to buy some candy that he had been craving all day. Emmett was feeling excited that day, and just ready for the day to come. A cute girl named Carolyn caught his eye the second he opened the store door. The first thing that he noticed was her beautiful long legs, and gorgeous hair flowing in the wind. Nervousness building up inside of him, first instinct was to whistle. He called the police, but got no service. The police didn’t care about his life. The uncle called everyone that he could. No one answered. He ran to go look for poor Emmett, no luck. He sat there crying, not knowing what to do. On August 31, Emmett was spotted in the river, dead. Days later, his open casket funeral was held. His mom wanted to show how cruel people can be.
When they found out who did this to him, the family took it to court. Racism, all because of racism. How dare people of different races talk to each other. The judge too, just like the police. Blacks aren’t as important as whites. Just

because the killers were white, and so was the judge, they were pleaded innocent. When my mom told me that, I couldn’t believe what my ears had just heard. One little boy was killed just for making contact with someone of the opposite
