On Sunday morning I attended my local Presbyterian church. The pastor, Kirk Bottomly, spoke about the Relationship with God and I was really impressed with Pastor Bottomly sermon. He showed that he was prepared for his sermon and made his message memorable. The motive of his sermon was to communicate to the churchgoers that having a relationship with God is important in their lives. In spite of the fact you go to church to be preached about the relationship with God, it is not just all about that. During the preaching there are also everyday life lessons that can be put into the sermon and Pastor Bottomly did a great job by teaching that to his audience in his speech.
Pastor Bottomly used a question about if the audience was living their lives as a follower of God and what it really means to be baptized. Bottomly started by telling a story about the bible and baptism, which he explained how his experience was in baptizing and then went back to his main message, that relates to the bible. I learned that movement is needed in speeches and the space that is given might have some obstacles, but working your way around the obstacles is achievable to make sure everyone in the audience feels included. Also keeping the audience focused and interested in the speech is very important, Pastor Bottomly used jokes to keep his audience interested in his speech. Another way Pastor Bottomly was able to keep interest in his audience was by being passionate about his speech.What Pastor Bottomly could improve on in his speech is by starting his speech with the thesis instead of going straight into a story. Besides the improvement Pastor Bottomly presented an excellent sermon and I have learned many thing about public speaking from his
