My afternoons were spent at basketball or volleyball practice. Not my own, my sister’s. I was okay at sports but they never could fully engage my mind like a book. I would embarrass my family by paying attention the the world in my hands instead of the world in front of me at every game, practice, and scrimmage. I grew accustomed to the sounds of shot clocks, buzzers, and whistles. After participating in various sports and being bribed to come to basketball games with new reading material one too many times, my family finally understood my lack of adoration for competitive sports. However they all still insisted I hadn't found my calling.
