The followers of Nathaniel Bacon sought redress of issues with the governor's favoritism toward certain individuals, the lack of proper fortifications, and the defending of the Native Americans in the region. Bacon states in his declaration that the governor was raising taxes in order to help advance his group of friends and favorites. This piece of evidence shows that Bacon believed that the taxes being levied against the people were used in order to advance the governor's circle of friends and he then explained that they have seen nothing result from the taxes other than this. In the following lines of the document, Bacon continues to highlight not only how the taxes have not helped with the town's trade or fortifications, but also that the
