Narrative Essay The gymnasium was packed. I could feel the sweat dripping down my face, my heart pounding out of my chest. I continue to stretch as my coach pep talks me, I’m not listening. I keep thinking, in the next three minutes I will know if I have made team BC. Millions of thoughts scrambling threw my brain, my next round, making team BC for a third consecutive year, and my provincial ranking. I hear my name is called, stumbling on to the mats I begin to panic. It begins; my most important round to date has started. The Asian boy is quick; I can hardly see his counter kicks approaching, Adam is his name. We fought last year in the first of the provincial ranking rounds. Unfortunately it didn’t go as planned with a score of 12-9 in his favour. The referee yells out in a strong Korean accent breaking the fight for our thirty second break. I sit down and start to guzzle my ice cold water back as my coach begins to talk. After what feels like five seconds I hear the referee call us back for our final round. Its 6-5, I am panicking now. With such similar styles, we continue clashing, my knees ache. It has been almost two minutes and not a single point has been scored. I go for a double and he blocks the second shot, scoring me only one point. Without thinking I take advantage of his open left side with a spinning hook kick to the back side of his head scoring me three more points. I did it in the lead by one point, with only five seconds I block his counter kick to my face and then referee calls out that the match is over. I did it, I won, and I am now on team BC again, and will soon be entered in the rankings round of team BC. The announcers call up the top 10 in each division, all in which are now members of team BC. I can hardly see with all of the cameras flashing. The judge’s hand out navy Addidas track suits embroidered in white with the team BC logo. The adrenaline is insane, finally after 6 years of hard work and dedication I am a senior member of team BC. After the ragging parents settle down we all go back to our warm up areas and prepare for our final rounds, which will decide our overall provincial ranking. My legs are warm, I am all stretched out and feeling confident. I always feel confident right up until I am on deck. Only a few rounds and I will be up, so I continue to walk around and stretch. I hear my name is called and in seconds I find myself on the cold mats fighting. After what feels like seconds I hear the call for our thirty second break. Not long after I find myself in the lead by six points. The referee calls the match, and I am announced the winner. The competitors who lost their matches continue to battle it out for the bottom five positions. Half an hour has passed and I am struggling to keep myself prepared and warm for my next round. Master Chong and Ms. Streifel my coaches continue to pep talk me. Everybody else from my school has already been eliminated and I am the last hope in the rankings. I start to panic as I enter my second of the ranking rounds. The three minutes are going by like seconds; all I can hear is the roar of my coaches. It’s a close match, leading by one point I am panicked with thirty seconds left that he might score. Keeping my hands up I block the shot he takes to my head, and counter with a roundhouse to the side. The referee calls the match and I continue to move up in the rankings. I had done it; I was now in the final round for the number one spot. The final
