The use of case studies, naturalistic observations, and surveys by psychologists is very important. These types of research are used a lot in order to find information. This information is then used by psychologists to observe and describe behavior. Case studies are used to study a few individuals not a big population. Case studies also rely primarily on clinical data, historical information, and tests. Naturalistic observations are used to study a subject's behavior in a natural environment, this research approach may be time consuming. Lastly, surveys focus on the subject's opinions and experiences, these are used to find information on a larger population. The problem with surveys is the information may be incorrect. Heredity is the genetic characteristics that are passed down to an individual by the parents. From this lesson, I have learned that our genes can influence the environment and the environment can influence how we as individuals express our genes. For example, my dad started to work out when he was a teenager and he continued to become a bodybuilder. Eventually, my brother started to go to the gym with my dad and he became a bodybuilder as well, then I started to work out as well because we have a gym in our garage. Psychologists are concerned with human biology because it deals with the brain and mind, this can help in learning why people act and think as they do.
Split-brains is when the corpus callosum is severed. The corpus callosum is what connects the two hemispheres of the brain. As a result, the two hemispheres can communicate and allows information to be processed between both parts of the brain. Split-brains reveal that the left side of the brain is more verbal, and the right side of the brain is mostly for visual perception as well as recognizing emotion. In summary, both hemispheres of the brain need to work together in order to function properly. Both hemispheres serve a great purpose, by working together the brain can work at it's greatest
