The Marshall Plan had positive effects because it sought to turn countries into forming a democracy and to weaken the power of the Soviet Union. First off, the plan was to rebuild Western Europe from the war by giving money only to democratic countries. This was positive because it encouraged countries to set up a new form of government so that they could get money from the U.S. to rebuild their country. Basically, The U.S. gave more money to nations who had strong democratic governments. Second, the plan was poitive because it restricted power from Stalin. Stalin basically broke the agreement with the other Allied Powers stating how countries that fell under Hitler's rule had the right of a free election. First, the U.S. joined the fight to preserve the government of El Salvador by sending troops to help the Nicaraguan anti-communists. Unfortunately, that civil war corrupted their government. This means that governments were very unstable and that many people opposed the new governments established; the country's economy weakened severely after about a decade of constant fighting. Second, those who opposed the government wanted a government that related to the Soviets. That is why so many rebel groups formed because they felt that their country should resemble a communist governent. This also means that majority of European countries and the U.S. would help fight against them so it was pretty much useless to start them. Honestly, communists basically just spilled more blood into countries who were democratic. Third, we realize that the U.S. was in almost every country who fought the communists. It did not matter if the country had a nationalist government, the U.S. would support them against any groups who tried to spread communism. Like in Iran, the U.S. supported the shah to fight revolutionaries. Unfortunately, this made the revolutionaries attack a U.S.embassy due to their hatred for them.
