World War 1 had a negative impact upon Australians and their identity, as issues like the conscription debate, death and unhygienic conditions created segregation. The men and women who went to war experienced contaminated, repulsive living conditions. The death of these people caused much pain and suffering and, the conscription debate created division. As a result Australians lost much of their slowly developing identity that they had to redevelop later on.
