Neil Perry’s death was caused by his father, Mr. Perry because of his incredible amount of concern for his son’s decisions. During the entire movie, Neil struggled to be free and and make his own decisions, simply because his father felt the need to be a control freak and take over his life. Neil tried to make his own decisions for himself, but his father took over and shot down everything he wanted for himself.
Neil perry wanted to be the editor for the Welton Academy school newspaper, but his father did not allow him. Neil went upon his father's wishes and did what he wanted. Mr. Perry finds it very easy to tell his son who is trying to figure out what he wants for himself, what to do. Although, Mr. Perry can never listen to what his son has to say, simply because he does not care. Mr. Perry portrays poor communication skills, making it hard for Neil to talk to him when he needs something, or to explain to him what he wants for himself. Throughout the movie, Mr. Perry had never said one positive thing about his son’s achievements. He never praised him for trying his best, or never gave him advice for what he wanted, all he did was tell him what to do. Any young adult, who would be trying to figure out what is best for them would be extremely stressed out by having a person control their life from miles away. To be specific, Mr. Perry does not have any real clue about who his son really is. Mr. Perry is stuck in his own world, filtering everything that he does not want to hear. For example, when Mr. Perry threatened to send Neil to military school, he showed no sympathy for his son. He did not care at all about wrecking his friendships, and his achievement that he already conquered at Welton. Neil tried to explain his position, but Mr. Perry
