FELINES - Kittens with signs of Neonatal Isoerythrolysis should immediately be removed from the queen to prevent further absorption of antibodies. They need be removed from the queen for the first 24 hours of life since no antibodies are absorbed afterwards. The kittens should be foster-nursed by a Queen with type A blood if available, or hand-fed with a kitten milk replacer. Kittens with severe anemia may require a transfusion, but unfortunately these efforts are rarely if ever successful.
EQUINES - Foals with clinical signs are treated based on severity. Treatment can include: withholding milk until a JFA negative result or the foals gut closes, corticosteroid drugs, NSAIDS, antibiotics, fluid therapy, oxygen therapy, and blood transfusions.
