This particular case was focused on the on going battle over net neutrality. There has been an undeniable growth in the use of the Internet, ranging from the conservative user who just checks emails to the more extensive user that streams television programs, plays online games, and downloads music files etc. With this exponential growth of Internet activity many new issues have arisen that never were. Issues all surrounding the concept of network neutrality. Network neutrality is the concept that Internet service providers have to allow customers equal access to the Internet and have no limitations to what websites the person may want to visit. This fight includes organizations like the Christian Coalition, the American Library Association, Comcast, and The Federal Communication Commission (FCC). The main alternative to net neutrality is the tiered service model. This alternative only benefits those on the side of the various Internet Service Providers while leaving the everyone else in a worse situation. Network neutrality is also being supported by some members of the U.S. Congress arguing “that the risk of censorship increases when network operators can selectively block or slow access to certain content.” Many businesses are concerned about the effect of slower transmission rates on their business models.
