Rudyard Kipling, the author of “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi,” has given plenty of textual evidence for any personnel to believe their own thesis. Theme is the main idea or the moral of a piece of literature. I personally, am absolutely convinced that the moral is “Never Give Up” and I am prepared to back that up. For example, Rikki and Nagaina never gave up even though Nagaina failed at her attempts. The animals of the garden all proceeded to help Rikki throughout the story to succeed. I understand how some may believe that the message of this text is “Accepting a Challenge Always has a positive outcome.” In this narration, both Rikki and Nagaina accept a challenge, but not both of the animals accomplish what they wish. There are many reasons given for anyone to believe the theme to be what they wish. Though, giving up is technically always an option neither the protagonist or antagonist did. The author of this fiction was trying to show that never giving up is always the better option than giving up and not trying at all. If Nagaina had given up she and Nag both would have been killed immediately once Rikki got there because it was his instinct. If Rikki had given up and done nothing he would not be living in the bungalow with the family and he would probably have been killed by Nag, Nagaina, or Karait. Which goes to prove, giving up in this story would cause more problems than before. For example, if Rikki would have not tried to keep the family safe they probably would have kicked him out of the bungalow and he would have been killed immediately because Nag and Nagaina knew Rikki would kill them later if they didn’t strike then. Where if Nag and Nagaina didn’t try the same outcome would have been done to them, Rikki would have killed them and there would really there would be no story. If either characters had given up this story would only be about what their new problems were rather than how they solved
