I believe in never giving up. Imagine you’re in a soccer penalty shootout. You’re the last one to go, you need to score to win. That’s a lot of pressure for one person. You take the shot and miss, the other team has won the championship. For most people that would be a heart-breaking experience. You would have to deal with the fact that you were the reason you lost. I would take this experience as an opportunity. An opportunity to understand that this not the end, there are more tournaments coming up, and if you got so close last time what makes you think you can’t win the next? I am the goalie for my club soccer team. We have participated in many tournaments and have gotten 2nd place on four different occasions. The most recent tournament we lost in a penalty shootout. It came down to the last shot and my teammate missed resulting in us losing. I had a lot of upset teammates that day, but I remained straight faced knowing we tried our best. When I experience a negative event or take a loss of some sort I always keep my head up. For example, after losing one of my tournaments I did not give up all hope for the rest of the season. I remained motivated for my next games and thanked my coaches and teammates for the fight we put up. I know it doesn’t seem practical to be smiling after losing a tournament. What I’m saying is that you shouldn’t be sulking for the next week over a small loss. By not sulking and lingering over a loss you can focus on the next time you will get another opportunity. For instance, after losing my tournament I started practicing more frequently and trained harder than before. I did this because I wanted to make sure I was ready for the next chance we had a tournament. There are always second chances, and as long as you stay motivated and determined you will achieve what you truly
