The Neverending Story Reading is a way to get away from reality. A way to explore other lands and other realities. When I read I embody the text in my mind to the point where I feel as though I am a part of it. I do not remember the first book I read. I really wish I did it was probably an amazing book. However, although I don’t remember the first one, I do remember the most influential books that I read, and how they made me become who I am today. My mother taught me how to read. At 8 months I was walking and talking, and by three I was reading children’s books. By the time I reached first grade I was at a fifth grade reading level. I loved to read. Every school year I would read over 200 books, not counting the summer. I read so much that I zoomed through books. I could read a 500 page book in 3 days. I just consumed the books as if they were food. I indulged myself in books of man different genres. I loved to read. My favorite books to read between first and third grade were Junie B. Jones books. They were so funny and she went on so many adventures. I also had a fascination in mystery books. Mary Downing Hahn was my favorite mystery book author. Seuss called The Lorax. The Lorax contained many hidden messages. It showed us how big businesses destroy the environment piece by piece. Deforestation was the main point that Dr. Seuss touched on. Instead of real things, Dr. Suess used examples in this story. One example are the truffula trees. These trees represented the natural resources that were abused. The Once-ler was not using eco-friendly technology. He polluted the air with nasty gasses that caused the birds to go away. He polluted the water which caused the fish to go away as well. Reading this story as an adult, and understanding what it truly meant, really showed me the parallels between fictional children’s stories and the real
