Throughout centuries many individuals have populated America. The majority came here for a purpose, many of them sought a specific kind of “opportunity and freedom”, however not all did it willingly. This paper is generally focused on the authors’ attitudes toward immigrates, minorities and races in the United States. Documents include the poem New Colossus by Emma Lazarus and Ray Osgood Hughes 26 chapters of Community Civics. The listed documents are analyzed and present reasons, thoughts and ideas from both authors, along with my personal opinions. Though, both sources are opposites lengthwise, they reveal a sufficient amount of knowledge on the directed topic. Whereas, Hughes views and divide immigrates into certain groups, claiming that they are all ancestors from parts of Europe except the Native Americans. Despite their contrasts, both authors maintain an expectation that, immigrates would help built America, regardless their differences in culture, statue and color. As mentioned in the introduction, all individuals who migrates to another country, leave their home for the obvious: the better. Whether it be job or education wise, they are all for reason that holds benefits, being said, the two authors acknowledge and state motivations for the immigrants’ department. Hughes listed include three reasons: poor opportunities for earning a living, tyranny of rules, and religious persecution, meanwhile Lazarus sends unlimited invitations to those who are homeless. This more or less explains the authors’ attitudes towards the immigrants of the United States.
