The film law and disorder is about how the New Orleans police department dealt with the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. The New Orleans police department did many good things during the hurricane, they worked around the clock rescuing people from the terrible flood. But they also did bad things and handled the situation badly after the hurricane was over. For example they were shooting people or arresting people who were stealing but they were stealing necessities such as water, medication, food, and clothing so was it ethical to do this. The film law and disorder central ethical dilemma was that should police departments use the crime fighter method or the public servant method during times of need such as a natural disaster or any other traumatic event. When people view police as public servants that means criminals are viewed in a different way such as criminals would not be a distinct group they would be normal people that you see and deal with every day. When police are viewed as public servants “they are to serve all people, including criminals and therefore should not make quick judgements about an individual’s worthiness to receive their services”(Pollock, 105). The crime fighter method is when the police are at war with criminals. The criminals are the enemy and the police will control and capture and punish them by any means necessary. Also when the police are viewed as crime fighters criminals are not view as people they are a fundamentally different group from good people.
