John Storrs, Ceres Figure, Board of Trade
141 West Jackson, Chicago, Illinois This building definitely has symbolism with Greco-Roman sculptures and temples. John Storrs was inspired by a roman goddess of grain and the patron saints of com traders, the biggest grain exchange. This means for Ceres, the biggest trade exchange.
The shape and color of the building reminds me of Greco-Roman. Ancient Greece had triangular shapes on top of temples just as Ceres. It is also made of stone that was carved into its shape. It is built in a rectangular stacking affect which is seen easily because its white stone color reflects from the many other tall buildings within the downtown area very much they way Greco-Roman sculptures were carved. I would say it sit a step forward just as the Greco-Roman sculptures since it’s not many building built as Ceres.

CHRIST BEFORE PILATE, ROSSANO GOSPELS, 6th Century This is a purple dyed parchment that was written on lamb, sheep, or calf skin. Written in Byzantine, with silver writings or text, it was also known as the Codex Purpureus Rossanensis. It is one of the oldest manuscript illuminations that exist. These manuscripts were used to spread the Early Christians beliefs and teachings. The New Testament books of Mark and Matthew is used heavily and was identified by some as the Gospel Book.
The subject deals with the life and early crucifixion of Jesus Christ and Banabas. Pilate sits high on the top portion of the parchment which displays his position of rank. Also, it shows two sets of people arguing their point for justice. On the lower portion, Jesus is shown larger than the others. It may suggest his belief in righteousness because of small four scenes to the right and left of him.
