Countries throughout the worlds define themselves by their attitudes, customs and beliefs. Culture is what distinguishes one population of people from other countries. The Republic of Niger gained their independence from France in 1960. Niger has only been in existence for approximately 25 years. The country has been dealing with numerous challenges that come with being a developing country in West Africa. The need to develop key infrastructure, lines of communication, government, conflict and education. Climate conditions affect agriculture employment and daily living in the country. Bordered by five other countries ( Algeria, Libya, Chad Nigeria and Mali). Niger’s land space is 489,075 sq miles with a population of 18,045,729 people. Terrain varies depending on the location in the country. The southern regions consist of deserts, plateaus, valleys and the Niger River. The river is an essential source of water for the country. The northern regions of Niger are very dry, hot and mountainous. This region contains a mountain range called The Air Mountains located in the Sahara desert. These mountains get as high as 6,634 feet. “Niger is a dry country that is mostly covered by desert”. Temperatures can reach as high as 113 degree Fahrenheit. Rain is scarce throughout the year averaging 29 inches annually. The cold months between November and February can reach below freezing with the average being 32 degrees Fahrenheit. The Forces Armees Nigeriennes ( Army) and the Force Aerienne du Nier(Air force). Men have to be minimum age of eight-teen years old and unmarried. Women also have to be a minimum age of eight-teen and unmarried. Women are only permitted to serve in the health care field. Niger does not have a powerful military. The army has 148 tanks, 1420 armored fighting vehicles, 25 self propelled guns, 339 towed guns and 30 multiple- launch rock system vehicles.
