Night And Jurassic Park Similarities

Eli Wiesel's Night and Steven Spielberg's screenplay of Jurassic Park are completely different in almost every aspect. Night depicts Wiesel's life as a 12 year old Jewish boy who struggled to survive alongside his family through the hardships of the holocaust, while Jurassic Park follows a group of people who get trapped on an island of living dinosaurs. Although these two stories are completely unalike, one relation can be easily drawn between both of the creators of these pieces. Through their similar motifs and background experiences, it can be deducted that both of the creators of the pieces believe that people search for positivity at the face of negativity. The Blockälteste was a German Jew. It was good to have a Jew as your leader. His name was Alphonse. A young man with a startlingly wizened face. He was totally devoted to defending 'his' block" (Wiesel 51). Even though Wiesel and his fellow inmates were confined within a concentration camp and being forced to tirelessly work just for the right to live, they found themselves appreciating any positives of the situation, such as having a German Jew leader who wanted to defend them. Many of the Jews knew they were doomed, but found comfort and hope from this single idea. In Jurassic Park, this hope within confinement is shown as everyone enters the park for the first time. The two jeeps pass through a giant gate attached to a massive electrical fence, covered in flashing lights and alarms sounding. The gates are closed behind them and locked securely by two employees, and Donald says, "The full fifty mile of perimeter is fenced?" To which Dr. Hammond replies, "And the concrete and motion tracking systems. Donald, dear boy, relax and enjoy yourself" (Jurassic Park).
