This year in high school we used two text to learn about the Holocaust called Night and life is beautiful. Night is a fictional memoir By Elie Wiesel, it follows Elie and his father through the hardships of nazi rule and their experiences they had in Auschwitz. Another text is Life is Beautiful is a great movie about a jewish waiter named Guido who finds a marries his true love Dora and have a son, they end up being taken to a concentration camp where he will save his son but will later die. The Holocaust is hard for many students to understand, this is because many students are sheltered from the atrocities from the past and even now, this makes them have a hard time understanding what happened in the Holocaust. So out of the two text we saw, night is the best suited for kids of our age because it doesn't sugar coat anything so we cannot downplay the atrocities.

Night goes way more detail than the movie Life is Beautiful. In Night Elie recalls “But the third rope still moving the child still alive” (Wiesel 65). While in life is beautiful they just showed hard labor by a scene in which they carry heavy anvils up stairs to put them into a very hot forge. One scene made a memorable impression was when the women screamed “look look at the fire”(Wiesel 25). In the movie once they get to the concentration camp there is a scene of the mother going through different colored clothes this could easily be mis especially if you didn’t have back round info. Once again it is very easy to miss the hints found in Life is Beautiful unless you have background info on the holocaust. Yet in Night the fire scene I can still remember in my head. It was so memorable because it showed the mental break down of people affected by the
