This shows Elie just wanted to survive and at the moment his family different matter. During life is beautiful Guido was a comedic character and protective person for his boy, and his wife was pure-hearted and would care to follow her family even if it meant going into a concentration camp. Joshua was an energetic kid that would obey his parents unless he had to take a bath. While in the concentration camp Guido would make up a game for Joshua to behave and give him most of his rations. Guido cross-dresses to see his wife once more and try his best to hide his son Joshua.
It indicates he is a loving man who can even be amusing at the lowest moments. To the audience, he would have a bigger impact than Elie.The audience would be more connected to Guido than Elie because it shows more visual and the way he responds, looks, and the things he does would have people like him more because he’s nice and entertaining. He would never betray someone and keep his family safe if it can be
