Night Elie Wiesel Analysis

In the novel, Night, Elie is in the camp hospital with an inflamed foot. An operation was done which ended up to be a success. Later, the doctor said that he was supposed to stay in the hospital for two weeks for recovery. Yet, news came around the camp that said an evacuation would occur. With this is mind he was told that the patients will not be evacuating. This lead to the assumption, for me and in the book, that the Germans were going to kill the patients. Afterall, what good is a broken Jew? So Elie was left with two choices, either stay in the infirmary with his father as a recruited nurse, or evacuate with the other Jews even though his foot was not in the right shape to make that journey. He decided to go with the others. In my opinion, with the given information, Elie made the right choice. This is because he didn’t want to make his father stay and die with him. He wanted to go and live with his father instead of stay and pragmatically commit suicide. It could be consisted killing yourself in the fact that Elie knew that the Germans wouldn’t simply leave the patients alive, they would kill them. He didn’t want that to happen to him, and most certainly not to his father. So, with the information that was present, I believe that Elie made the better decision. …show more content…
I can’t even imagine the shock, pain, and guilt that Elie probably felt to go through that. He decided to leave his rescue and stay with the Germans, for what? Assurance that his father and him wouldn’t be separated or even killed. He made that choice and he feels the pain that came with it. He blames himself for the fact that they aren’t free and liberated. I don’t blame him for his choice or his guilt.
