At the beginning of Night, Eliezer describes himself as someone who believes “profoundly” in his God. However, throughout the book Eliezer starts to question his faith in his God due to the horrible things he sees and the torture he endures.
In this quote from the book “Why did I pray? Strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe?”(pg 4) Eliezer compared praying to living and breathing. To live you have to breath, so basically what he is saying is that he has to pray in order to live. Prayer means everything to him. He even asks Moishe to teach him more about his faith.
Unfortunately, Eliezer’s life changes suddenly when the Nazis invade Poland. He finds himself in a concentration camp without hope of escape. The genocide he witnessed
