We all know what conflicts are, we are no stranger to conflicts. Conflicts are all around, we sometimes even swim in conflicts. Well, in Washington territory there were lots of causes that created a conflict. Some of thing that involved creating the conflict was greed, wealth, power, and broken treaties. The Nisqually tribe, American settlers, Walla Walla tribe, Yakima tribe, US army, and territorial government were all parts of the causes of the conflict. The conflict also started during 1850 through 1855.

The first cause of conflict was land, When the American settlers first came to Washington territory they were granted 320 acres of land, if a man had a wife she would also get 320 acres of land. This land was coming from the land donation act of 1850, this was when Oregon, Washington, and Idaho were all a territory. With the very first settlers in the Nisqually area they most likely met the Nisqually Indians. The Nisqually Indians thought of there land as a gift they decided to spread the gift to the others or in this case the settlers. The Nisqually Indians chief was great friends with the McAllister’s who were very well known settlers, they both did trades. The settlers were taking advantage of the Nisqually Indians land by taking there land.

The disrespect with the settlers and the Nisqually Indians. The settlers weren’t respecting the Nisqually Indians land, the Indians saw as a gift but the settlers saw as tools and wood.
