No More Pep Rolillies Etta Kralovec Analysis

In the article “No more Pep Rallies!”, Etta Kralovec explains that schools should privatize extracurricular activities to help improve education. Kralovec gives the reasoning that extracurricular activities cost the school too much money. Shen then says that if schools were to move the programs out of the district, then it would help the neighborhood as activity center like the YMCA would take responsibility for these activities. I believe that her reasoning and her thoughts will not work and they are poor choices. I disagree with Kralovec’s article, and believe that extracurricular activities are necessary.

One of these points is said as, “Parents reminded the board that the previous year the school had sent seven members of the golf team in a 72-passanger bus to a gold tournament 100 miles away.” I can agree as to why she would say that activities need to be privatized if the money for the school is being spent on activities such as these. Another reason I agree with her upon is in her saying, “Last year 70% of the students at the high school barely met standards in math and reading.” If the students are not doing well in school, then activities should be the least of their worries.
In conclusion, even though Kralovec makes a few small reasons as to privatizing school activities, I do not agree with her statement. School needs extracurricular activities to help it succeed and to help the students be who they are and to help them find their talents that they have hidden within them. If the activities are ridden of, then the school may see a decrease in student grades, and student motivation drop down big time if all they do all day is work and go
