In Doris's story “No witchcraft for sale” there are messages that are given from Gideon. The first message from Gideon is that we should treat each others equally because you never know when you will need them. Another message is that the world does not revolve around money or at least it shouldn't. The last message of the story is that we should not hold grudges against the people we love and care about. In the end Gideon made the decision that made the most sense to him, although people disagreed he made the decision with the messages he gave within the story.
In Doris's story Gideon saves Teddy’s life and when he does this it is a miracle because this medicine he uses is not available to everyone. In the story Teddy is spat in the face by a snake with venom and Teddy’s eyes begin to swell. Gideon goes out and gets a plants roots and chews them up and spits them into his eyes and saves Teddy. Gideon told Teddy's mother” His Eyes will get better” after he finishes using the medicine. Gedion is a servant that gets paid poorly and when a doctor comes to collect the plant to make medicine, Gideon refuses to tell him where it is. The message that Gideon is first very aware of is that the whites do not think of them as equal until they can provide something that they can not do themselves. The next message is that Gideon will not sell his heritage to a white man that does not even believe him about the root. In the end Gideon does not hold a grudge against the Farquars because of the the love he has for them and Teddy. All of the messages helped him make such an important
