In “Noah Count and the Arkansas Ark”, the author demonstrates that you don’t always have to a school education to get things done. The type of education the Appletons got is not book smart but it’s smart. On section 5, Granny said, “A cat sneezin’ always means rain.” On section 9, the Father brought his son to the levee so they can see how the levee would hold the rainwater. That proves you don’t need a school education to tell when it’s going to rain.

There was a family named the Appletons. They weren’t that smart, but they managed to stay alive. (Section 1) One day, everything was calm until a cat sneezed. (Section 2 and 5) Granny heard the cat sneeze and told everyone that rain was coming. (Section 6) The Mother and Father started naming things that happened that could lead to rain too. The son didn’t believe them because he thought since he goes to school, he knows everything. After discussing that rain was coming, the Father took his son to the levee to see if the levee could hold the rain.
