The word “Volunteer” may be clear to you, but in the context of this subject the actual definition has changed over the decades .Many people believe that the reason one volunteers is because they have lots of time to spare and are looking for something to do. Time is a precious commodity among all of us – and those members of the most likely group to volunteer have little to spare – often trying to balance careers with raising families, taking care of aging parents, going to the gym, and keeping up with e-mail! That may be the misconception of one who does not have time in their busy lives to volunteer for society. Over the past four decades, youth volunteerism rates have fluctuated for many different factors giving researchers a reason to make this issue controversial According to recent economic research career decision is being made earlier in youth than ever before and is quite prevalent in the United States, suggesting that nearly 40% of youth grades 9 through 12 volunteer (Clemmitt 77).Volunteering groups began in the early 1700s in order to confront social problems in a structured manner by American settlers.A researcher, Jonathan F. Zaff, Ph.D., whose primary focuses is on understanding how to create the conditions within which all children and youth thrive academically, socially, vocationally, and civically. Although researchers have claimed that volunteering in youth is beneficial and non-beneficial, what they have failed to bring together is the importance of how the volunteering is carried
